Dr. Boss is the owner of Best Friends Veterinary
Center. She graduated from the University of Illinois with a B.S. in
biology and then achieved her veterinary degree from the same school
in 1985. She spent her first few years out of school in a mixed
practice (both pets and farm animals) in northern Indiana. Dr. Boss
and her husband moved back to the Milwaukee area and she worked in
an equine (horse) practice for a year before settling down in Cedarburg.
After four years at the Cedarburg Veterinary Hospital she purchased
Grafton Small Animal Hospital (now BFVC) in 1993.
Dr. Boss started writing handouts and newsletters shortly after
graduating from veterinary school. She eventually put them together
into sets for puppies, kittens, adult dogs and cats, and senior pets.
Her notebook system is now used by practices all over the United
States, Canada and Europe. Her strong interest in client education also led to writing her book for veterinary staff
members, "Educating Your Clients from A to Z: What to Say and How to
Say it." This book is currently a top seller for the American Animal
Hospital Association and is required reading for AAHA’s technician
training program.
Dr. Boss writes the clinic newsletters, which won a newsletter
contest in 1999. She is past president of the Milwaukee Veterinary
Medical Association, and writes their newsletters, too. She is on committees for the Ozaukee Humane
Society and AAHA. For AAHA Dr. Boss chairs the committee that plans
the practice management portion of AAHA's annual conference. She is on the advisory board of Pet CareTV, which
makes the DVDs shown in BFVC's waiting room. In addition, she has had
many articles published in veterinary journals and speaks to
veterinarians at seminars nationwide, helping them to improve their
client education, client relations and staff training programs. The
training program here at Best Friends Veterinary Center is the envy of clinics
across the U.S. and results in staff members who are willing and able
to answer just about any question a pet owner may have.
Our newest program to be proud of is canine rehabilitation. Dr. Boss has attended the first training program in the country for rehabilitation in pets, through the veterinary college at the University of Tennessee. Her training makes her one of the first veterinarians in the state to provide this special care.
Throughout her career, Dr. Boss has maintained a strong focus on
customer service and excellence in patient care. Always willing to go
the extra mile for her patients, she’ll consult with a specialist or
research difficult cases and likes to do second opinion consultations,
work up challenging medical cases and tackle new surgical techniques.
She works very hard to continuously improve the quality of care
delivered to both clients and patients in the hospital.
Dr. Boss also enjoys gardening both at home and at the practice, and spending time with her three cats and her new dog, Carly (Collie mix). Practicing medicine
full time, managing a twenty-employee business and all her volunteer
activities doesn’t leave much time for other hobbies! |
