Emily Helms , DVM Dr. Helms grew up in Thiensville, WI before completing her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at Mount Mary College. From there, she took on the difficult task of completing veterinary school at the University Of Wisconsin School Of Veterinary Medicine in Madison. While attending undergraduate and graduate schools, Dr. Helms worked at Grafton Small Animal Hospital/Best Friends Veterinary Center as a kennel attendant, office assistant, and then veterinary assistant, but circumstances sent her to a corporate practice in northern Illinois after veterinary school and then a private small animal practice in Milwaukee County. In 2007, Dr. Helms and her husband, Dennis began building a house on an old dairy farm in southern Sheboygan county. As circumstances would have it, in February 2008, Dr. Helms was able to return to Best Friends Veterinary Center as an associate veterinarian. Her veterinary special interests include animal behavior, weight management and nutrition, feline senior care, and client education. When she has a free moment, Dr. Helms enjoys riding and training horses, especially her horses Dakota and Zenith, spending time with her three cats, Annie, Charlie, and Oliver, dirt track racing, truck and tractor pulling, beading, and relaxing outdoors.
