Baby Animals

Print Version

During the spring and summer we get lots of calls about injured or orphaned wildlife. If you find a baby animal, first make sure it’s actually
an orphan. If a baby bird falls out of its nest the parents will still care for it – just put it in a cardboard box and nail the box up into a tree near
where you found it. Mother deer and rabbits only feed their babies 2-3 times a day so finding the baby alone does not mean it’s been
abandoned. If you find an injured animal call us, and we will direct you toward the appropriate place for care and treatment. Sometimes
that’s here at Best Friends but we usually send these animals on to a wildlife rescue facility such as Wisconsin Humane Society or Pine View Wildlife Refuge. This is a baby raccoon that we fed before sending him on to WHS.  Learn more at or
